Not off base. Not at all appealing to me!

I think lots of teachers like to create their own materials; however, I have also been happy -- delighted even -- to use others' materials when they are excellent. For example, the Great Books Guide for the Great Gatsby has wonderful essay topics and great passages selected for close analysis.
