Couldn't agree more. I've been thinking more and more about professional trust and the increase in new assessments (I know Deborah Meier beat me to this by a decade in print). It seems like more and more teachers, as a result of not having this trust handed to them, will have no idea how to design and diagnose learning on their own.

Thanks for the comment, Steve. I've been discussing this same point with many groups lately myself. The push to overdo standardized testing and limit teaching of Black and poor children to drill-and-kill test prep are also part of a larger push to further de-professionalize teaching.

I couldn't agree with you more. I also really enjoyed the writing example that you gave.
