I agree that teachers need to work to professionalize the profession. There is already a start with National Boards, a certification I earned several years ago in my effort to be treated more professionally. We need to especially work to be heard and acknowledged as the experts in our field. Too often teacher's voices are ignored, and even ridiculed.I would like to be a part of this movement. What do I need to do?

Thank you for your comment and your interest in helping move our profession forward. As an NBCT, are you serving in any teacher leadership role in your school/district? Are you active in any teacher networks or organizations? These are good places to start the work of discussing these issues. Also, important to get other teachers with whom we work aware and discussing these points as well. We need a groundswell from among teachers ourselves to move existing organizations, and if necessary new ones.
