Yes, thank you for bringing this topic to the blog forum. Not only are the counselor to student ratios to high to manage in the public school system, there is not nearly enough time to help the students plan out their futures with sound educational and career goals. Counselors are faced with the responsibility to help increase high school graduation rates, prevent drop-outs, provide referral services, social and psychological counseling, help socio-economically disadvantaged families navigate through the college and financial aid application process, and not to mention the testing. We would be better off identifying the needs of the students and families in our communities and then helping implement the programs to meet those needs.

I agree, Claire, the process has been backwards and increasingly ineffective for students.
