Nickie

I am a reader of "The Connected Educator" and a teaching veteran in Minnesota. I teach social studies, and I find it impossible to discuss issues surrounding history, religion, politics, and society without also encouraging critical thinking and analytical skills. I often am astounded at how easy it is for young people to voice their opinion and yet how hard it is for them to explain why. I want to live in a world where people know what they think and why, not just where people regurgitate what someone else says. Would we have had the Renaissance or Scientific Revolution without critical thinking? Would the Enlightenment and American Revolution have taken place if everyone did exactly what their parents told them to do? I think critical thinking is not only helpful but absolutely necessary to maintain our democracy and to strive for greater things in the 21st Century. Thanks for your insights! #clc-teacherleader
