Dear Bill,

I love this speech. The phrase I'd add is "So What?". I've seen that appear so much in my draft entries as I'd write these beautiful stories about what kids were doing.

Ultimately the questions I'd have to answer is "So What"....because how was the story related to how much they learned. Then I'd have to throw away the story (because aren't we a profession of story tellers) and start again. Trying to become more data driven and more analytical.

I think those two words will rattle around in my head whenever I do anything related to teaching. They've become a wonderful acid test for how useful something is and part of the most important things I learned in becoming an NBCT.

Thanks for sharing such a thoughtful post. I've featured it on my blog as one of The Cornerstone accolades for February 2009.

hi Bill,

nice piece! You should take a look at the new Teacher Leader certification that's going to be developed through NBPTS as well.

Hi Bill - as a teacher just beginning to venture out into the world of Blogging, I've learned a lot from reading your Blog about how to speak up and out about topics in education. I appreciate your hopeful and professional outlook.

Hi, What a thought provoking speech. I love it!

I wanted to let you know about a new Pinterest board through which NBCTs are sharing free materials, ideas and lessons.

Currently, over 25 Nationally Certified teachers have items pinned and I believe this is just the beginning! I'd love to see this become a well-known vehicle through which NBCTs can give back by sharing free resources.

If you would like to take a look, the link is: http://pinterest.com/annegardner4/national-board-certified-teachers-nbpts-nbcts-offe/

We'd appreciate any support you can provide in helping to get the word out!

Thanks, Anne Gardner (NBCT, 2009)
