I like this post a lot, and it makes me want to try out the pen. I think another possibility for using the pen would be for students who are struggling to work through an exercise and describe what they are doing. This might give some insight into the concepts or strategies they are struggling with.

Put it in the hands of a student, and see how they work through a math problem!

Right, I just went to their website and ordered one (see how I trust you?)
My daughter then said they have pens like this at Toys R Us for $15...

Hey Louise,

Now, Im not saying that your daughter is wrong---but I will tell you that Ive got an 18 month old so the Toys R Us is a regular stop for us and I havent seen anything like the Livescribe pen there!

Trust me on this one---its pretty freaking cool. Im planning on uploading a few files tonight that I created while at the Educon panel discussion. Its remarkable how you can pair audio to the actual text without any trouble----and loading your files to the web for sharing is a complete breeze!

Hope you like it....and hope you stop back sometime to tell me how it all works out!

Rock on,
Bill

I love the simplicity of it, if you can use a pen or marker you can use this tool

Bill,

It's funny that you posted about this because I've been comparing thinking about getting a Livescribe pen for a while, but I kept seeing these teacher-centered examples of its use. I couldn't think of many student-focused applications, until you shared these.

BTW, the ultimate waste of tech $$$ is the Papershow for Teachers pen. It's an IWB in a pen. Any chance of student engagement? Nope.
