Bill, not to stroke your ego any more (ha ha), but this post and reply should be mandatory reading by every educator and their administrators. It's 'where to start' with collaborating as a PLT, in my opinion.

My school doesn't have Google Docs for Education, but we may change that next year, so I have used wikis instead of. I like your discussion on why Google Docs is a better solution.

Thanks, Ginny!

I'm glad that you found this helpful.

And don't fool yourself: You are MY hero! I wish I had your intellectual commitment to exploring.

Hey Jacqui,

Glad that I could help!

And remember: The Google Docs v. Wikis conversation isn't an "either/or" discussion.

They both play a role---Google Docs is perfect for creating docs together. Wikis are great for storing those docs.

Does that make sense?

Also, don't feel like you have to wait for a Google Apps for Education account to start doing this stuff. You can create a free Google Account today and do everything that I've mentioned.

I know it's doable because that's exactly what I'm doing!

Rock on,
Bill

I've been using wikis and Google docs from the getgo and they ROCK! Here is the link to our school's Equity team wiki, which I created to streamline information and to communicate more effectively:

Let me know if you have questions!

Hi Bill,
Thanks for really clarifying these issues - I think I finally have it sorted out right! I've created a wiki for Intermediate (middle school) Teachers to create a resource for each other in investigating having students use SM with curric in the Intermediate Classroom. Using Google Docs to create stuff. Yea!
Ordered 2 of your books to continue to help us out (and get through to Admin?), and Amazon.ca says they should be here today or tomorrow. Thanks so much for all your help, even though you haven't known to whom you were giving it!

Sandy Steggall

Thank you for sharing! My staff is headed down this path. We are working on uploading "I can" statements now. I can't tell you how refreshing it is to see all the pieces fit together, and you have done just that. It was exactly what I needed to see...great job!

Really glad I could help, Sandy!

Keep me posted if theres anything else I can do for you...

Bill
