I believe that meaningful design and creation are dependent upon knowing things. The premise that we can have a skills-based curriculum devoid of content is not realistic. One of the reasons those college kids can do meaningful innovation is they had 12 years of successful schooling before they went to university.

I'm also tired of the concept that computers can replace interaction with teachers and classmates. Supplement and enhance? Absolutely.

As a fellow teacher, Bill, I want to thank you for being there in that conversation and I'll add my hope that such groups open it up more to classroom teachers to bring some reality to the room.

PS -- Hey, you were in my state!

No sweat, Kevin -- and youre right: Teachers bring reality to these kinds of conversations.

As much as I believe the other participants in this conversation cared about schools and believed in teachers, they also didnt really get the kinds of factors that made some of their suggestions completely impossible to pull off -- and if folks that ARE in tune dont get it, imagine how disconnected the average person is.

And dude -- if I was going to be in MA for any longer than the 20 hours I was there, Idve looked you up! That was a quick-in and quick-out experience.

Hope youre well,
Bill
